What’s Smudging You Ask?
A Feel Good, Smell Good Ritual.
This is our "Sage Advice"
A smudging ceremony can be performed as often as once a week for regular energetic cleansing. You may also want to practice it whenever you are feeling out of sorts, emotionally heavy, surrounded by negative energy, or when moving into or cleaning out a new space.
Smudging is best done with full awareness. Slow down. Be mindful. You may even want to sit in meditation for a few minutes beforehand, grounding yourself and setting a clear intention for what you are releasing and what you are welcoming in.
This is not just smoke.
This is a ceremony.
And always practice fire safety.
A Gentle Reminder
Smudging is a spiritual and cultural practice rooted in Indigenous traditions. Approach it with respect, awareness, and gratitude.
What You Need
A loose dried ceremonial sage bundle, ( The Earth Element)
sometimes referred to as a wand and bound together with a thin string.
Or a stick of Palo Santo, also known as Holy Wood, ( The Earth Element)
or a braid of Sweetgrass. ( The Earth Element)
You can find them all here at Majestic Hudson Boutique!
I personally like representing all the elements in my Smudging Ritual.
You will also need a fireproof burning surface,
such as a ceramic smudge pot or an abalone shell (The Water Element)
a Feather ( the Air Element)
along with matches or a lit Ritual Candle. (The Fire Element)

After Smudging, open a window. Energy needs somewhere to move.
Lighting Your Sage
Light your sage bundle with a match or lighter. Allow the flame to catch, then gently blow it out so the bundle begins to smolder and release smoke.
Focus your energy on the smoke. Notice its aroma. Feel its purpose.
If a full flame appears, softly shake the bundle or blow on it until it returns to glowing embers and smoke. You may need to relight your sage a few times during the ritual. That is perfectly natural.
Cleanse Yourself First
Once the smoke is flowing, circle the bundle around your body or use a feather to guide the smoke. Move from your feet up to your head and back down again. Stay connected to your breath throughout the session.
You may also offer this ritual to another person.
This is considered a sacred sage ceremony, allowing you to shift into a cleansed and positive state. Always begin with yourself and those present before you move into cleansing your physical space.

Clearing Your Home
Begin at your main entrance.
Move slowly through your house or workspace, gently waving the smoke. Pay special attention to the corners of each room, as they are believed to hold stagnant energy.
Envision the smoke dissolving negativity as it fills the space.
Pass the sage wand along the edges of windows and doorways. Allow the smoke to reach every room, closet, cabinet, vent, and threshold. For a smudging ceremony to feel complete, the smoke should touch every part of your space.
Ideally, you are directing and dissolving all negative energy out through the open window.
Do not forget the spaces you rarely use, such as attics, basements, and closets. Smudge them all. Hey, keep smiling and take it all in as you clear the air in your safe and sacred space.
When you reach each doorway, ask that the room be sealed and protected. I often leave a bundle or incense stick burning safely near each entrance during the ritual, especially in my foyer.

Completing the Ritual
Once you have smudged your entire home, allow the sage bundle to burn out naturally in your fireproof bowl.
You may choose to bury the remaining sage in your garden as a symbol of completion and gratitude.
Take a breath. Notice the shift.
Fini.
Think about what is necessary.
